Welcome to MATRIZ Academia

MATRIZ Academia is a growing collection of carefully selected materials documenting the evolution, application, and teaching of TRIZ. Whether you are a researcher, practitioner, or educator, you’ll find a lot valuable resources here to deepen your understanding of the methodology and its real-world use.

This section currently includes:
  • TRIZ Master theses (Level 5) dedicated to the development of the methodology,
  • Level 4 project reports defended as part of the TRIZ Specialist certification process,
  • a full archive of the historic Journal of TRIZ (Журнал ТРИЗ),
  • all published issues of TRIZ Review – the official international journal of MATRIZ.

New sections will be added as the Academy continues to grow. Each item in this archive has been selected for its contribution to the knowledge, practice, or history of TRIZ. We invite you to explore, learn, and be inspired.

TRIZ Master theses 1

TRIZ Master (Level 5) is the highest certification level awarded by MATRIZ. This title is granted only to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in the scientific, practical, or educational development of TRIZ. In each case, the title is awarded based on a positively evaluated and publicly defended thesis.
The following collection features theses dedicated to the advancement of TRIZ methodology. You will not find here any theses submitted as part of a TRIZ Master application based solely on practical or teaching achievements.
If you browse our base of TRIZ Masters you will quickly notice that the number of certified Level 5 holders is much higher than the number of theses presented here. It’s worth noting that in 1998, the founder of TRIZ, Genrich Altshuller, personally created a list of around 65 individuals who were granted the TRIZ Master title in recognition of their contribution to the methodology – without the requirement of submitting a formal thesis.
Both the TRIZ methodology and the certification rules for the TRIZ Master title have evolved over time. That’s why we encourage you to treat these documents as historical materials. Reading them can certainly help you understand many key TRIZ concepts, but they should not be considered current textbooks – let alone official guidelines for writing your own thesis.
For up-to-date descriptions of TRIZ tools, please visit wiki.matriz.org. Details about the current requirements for Level 5 certification can be found in the official MATRIZ regulations.

Level 4 project reports 2

To receive the Level 4 TRIZ Specialist certificate, candidates must prepare and defend a qualification project in front of an expert committee. The project should demonstrate both deep theoretical understanding of TRIZ and the ability to apply TRIZ tools in practice. The materials shared in this section were submitted and successfully defended as part of that process.

These reports offer valuable insight into how TRIZ projects are planned, executed, and documented by experienced practitioners. While each one successfully met the certification requirements, it is important to note that the defense process involves in-depth discussion with the certification committee – including questions, comments, and suggestions for improvement.

The materials shared here are not intended as templates or definitive models. Rather, they reflect individual approaches and real-world applications, each shaped by the candidate’s work and the feedback received during the defense. Minor issues were often identified and addressed in this process, without affecting the overall positive assessment. As such, these reports can serve as a helpful reference – not as ready-made patterns, but as examples of how TRIZ thinking is applied in diverse and practical contexts.

Journal of TRIZ 3

The Journal of TRIZ (Russian: Журнал ТРИЗ) was a quarterly magazine published in Obninsk between 1991 and 1997 as the official publication of the TRIZ Association. The editor-in-chief was Kirill Sklobovskiy, a TRIZ Master, researcher, and active promoter of the methodology.

The magazine was launched by the TRIZ community during a period of rapid methodological development. From the beginning, it was designed as a professional journal for TRIZ practitioners, educators, and method developers. It combined accessible language with a high level of substance – featuring methodological articles, analyses, commentary, discussion pieces, and updates on the development of TRIZ.

Although it was originally intended as a quarterly publication, the magazine appeared irregularly. Over seven years, a total of 14 issues were published. In 1997, publication was suspended. After a several-year break, the magazine was revived in 2005 as an electronic edition under the patronage of MATRIZ. Unfortunately, after the release of one more issue in 2006, the publication was permanently discontinued.

Today, Journal of TRIZ remains a valuable historical resource that documents the evolution of TRIZ –  especially during the dramatic social and economic changes of the 1990s. It includes articles by well-known and respected authors, as well as lesser-known contributions that are just as important in tracing the development of TRIZ ideas and tools.

We invite you to treat this collection as an archival resource. Reading through these issues provides insights into the context in which TRIZ was taking shape and allows readers to follow the evolution of many concepts now considered foundational. However, please keep in mind that not all of the content reflects the current state of knowledge – so, we recommend approaching these materials with their historical context in mind.

TRIZ review 4

TRIZ Review is an English-language academic and professional journal published by the International TRIZ Association (MATRIZ). Its stated goal is to foster an international, interdisciplinary community of TRIZ researchers, trainers, and practitioners by providing a platform for sharing high-quality articles on both theoretical development and practical application of the methodology in engineering, business, and education. All submissions undergo a double-blind review process, and the editorial board includes respected experts in the field.

The content of TRIZ Review combines academic rigour with practical implementation value. The debut issue, released in February 2019, featured the first English translation of Genrich Altshuller’s classic essay “The Psychology of Inventive Creativity,” alongside articles on modern TRIZ function analysis, case studies from international corporations, or papers exploring TRIZ integration with innovation management and creative education. The second issue, published in April 2020, focused on tool development (such as automated cause–effect analysis), the use of the MPV method for exploring adjacent markets, or the adaptation of function analysis to organizational problems.

After the second issue, the journal’s publication was paused. However, in 2025, the MATRIZ Board decided to revive TRIZ Review, releasing a third volume. The journal’s return reflects a renewed commitment to gathering breakthrough research, implementation cases, and reflections on the future of the methodology in the era of artificial intelligence and big data analysis.
