It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Victor D. Berdonosov on June 1, 2026, in his 80th year. He was a Professor, PhD in Technical Sciences, Level 4 TRIZ Specialist, and a MATRIZ member.
For many, the name of Dr. Berdonosov is inseparable from the history of TRIZ in Russian higher education. He began teaching the fundamentals of TRIZ at Komsomolsk-na-Amure State University (KnASTU) in 1984 as part of the course “Methods of Electronic Circuit Design,” and in 1995 became one of the founding members of the Department of TRIZ and Engineering Management – among the first of its kind in Russia. He dedicated more than thirty years to the systematic integration of TRIZ into academic curricula across a wide range of programmes at KnASTU – from mechanical engineering and electronics to innovation management, information security, and even the humanities. Through these programmes alone, over 3,000 students, master’s candidates, and postgraduate researchers were trained TRIZ.
Dr. Berdonosov was a passionate proponent for TRIZ and contributed to its advancement both within Russia and internationally. For nearly fifteen years, he served as the principal organiser of the international online conference “TRIZ Technology” – an annual student forum designed to unite early-career researchers from across the world and foster the exchange of experience, with the participation of universities from Russia, China, South Korea, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. He was himself a regular participant in the world’s leading TRIZ conferences, such as TRIZ Future, TRIZfest, ICSI, and others, held in Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Ireland, Portugal, and South Korea. He conducted TRIZ training seminars in Korea and China, advanced methods of TRIZ training and knowledge systematisation, and led researches in the fields of energy, aviation, and software engineering.
His most enduring legacy, however, is his students. He launched careers, shaped ways of thinking, and instilled a passion for the discipline in an entire generation of specialists, people for whom TRIZ became not merely a tool, but a competitive advantage and even lifelong calling. His students, master’s graduates, and PhDs went on to win international competitions, publish in leading journals, obtain patents, and establish themselves as respected experts in their fields. He belonged to that rare category of mentors who unlock true potential, form a worldview, and set both professional and moral bearings, who believe in a student’s success even when the student does not.
The passing of Dr. Berdonosov is an irreplaceable loss for the international TRIZ community, for his students and colleagues, and for all those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
